Writing process
Oct. 7th, 2022 11:33 amI’ve been thinking about how much fun and also interesting it would be if writers wrote a post similar to the ones artist do – where they show their process when it comes to the art they created for a bang or whatever.
So, this is sort of what I had in mind with that.
I participated in a challenge called Salt-Burn-Porn where you are given a prompt and are given 24 hours to write a porny fic based on that prompt. My prompt was “don’t stand so close.”
This of course brings to mind the Police song, but I really didn’t want to write a student/teacher relationship because that has been done, and done so damn well (if you haven’t read My Homework was Never Quite Like This, you should). Not wanting someone to stand so close – maybe it’s a scent thing instead? Could be ABO. Could be something other monster-y – like a vampire.
I have a vampire Jensen series, where Jared is a college student, and I thought – maybe add to this. And I started that story, wherein Jared was going to crash a vampire rally where vampire Jensen was and there would be consequences – but then I realized I was going to have to basically recap the first two stories in this series to make it a standalone and nobody wants to read a recap and anyway, another idea was forming in the back of my mind.
Vampire Dean. In Live Free or Twihard Dean was a vampire for a hot minute. If Dean always had feeling for Sam and the hunger in Dean because of the vampire blood lowered his inhibitions – but it wasn’t Sam during that episode. It was soulless Sam.
Soulless Sam - I’ve never written him and he would absolutely do anything needed to distract Dean from feeding. Plus, he has Sam’s memories, so he would know Sam always wanted Dean. And Soulless liked sex like a lot and had no inhibitions – so he absolutely would seduce Dean as a distraction and Dean would be in a state that not much seduction would be needed.
Easy-peasy fun little sex romp – yes? No. Because then Dean had to recognize Sam was being unSamlike which he had already caught on to, and he would feel uneasy and guilty about the whole process as a result. So angst in the middle of sexy times. Sometimes my muse hates me.
Also – what kind of sex? I decided on trading blow jobs since – hey no prep – and also it would be the quickest way for Soulless to accomplish his goals. In the trading of blow jobs – Dean is rough, and Soulless isn’t – which is contrary to what I think most people would think it would be. But I think Soulless wanted Dean to get out his aggression, knowing hunger was driving him crazy, and he would like his sex rough, so he let Dean be rough with him. However, Soulless was very much in charge, he stopped Dean from orgasming, and pushed Dean to his knees to return the favor. He would have been a bit afraid of Dean biting him, because he knew Dean couldn’t drink human blood – so he took the nice and easy approach to Dean giving him a blow job. He came in Dean’s mouth, but didn’t let Dean come in his – he got Dean off with a hand job. And then was like ‘well, that was nice, we need to clean up now.’ And of course, that was like throwing a bucket of ice water over Dean.
And hey that’s enough for the challenge, and I could have left it there – but Dean was unhappy and I couldn’t leave Dean unhappy so – with like 12 hours to go and very little sleep – let’s write part two
d first I had different points in time when that night almost came up – when Sam was mad at Dean about Gadreel – when Dean was turned demon – etc but that was just too long and involved so I wrote a lot of it then just deleted everything. I always hate deleting large segments – it feels like cutting off limbs of my fic – but sometimes it’s necessary.
So when should it come up? Sam didn’t even know what happened that night until he got his memories back, and at that time they were dealing with a lot of crap so probably not then. I like the idea of the five years after Chuck was vanquished that the boys lead a domestic life in the bunker, and have written other fics that take place during that time – so it made sense that the second part should happen then.
If this is something they are both aware happened – and don’t talk about it – how will they ever? Dean wouldn’t. Dean thinks he hurt Sam, so he would bury that crap and the guilt and take it to the grave so it would have to be Sam.
So, it was Sam and because I only had so much time – I just had Sam blurt it out. Then they talked about it for like 2.5 seconds and then because this is a porn challenge and not an angsty-plot challenge, I had to get them back into bed so that they could have 100% totally consensual sex, which they did. And also, very happy ending where they are both angst-free, yay boys.
So, in the end I was mostly okay with the fic. I don’t think it’s in the list of my best fics, but I don’t think it’s bad for a 24 hour fic. I like the plot, I think the end was a bit rushed, and the smutty parts were okay.
Anyway, I don’t think anyone will read this, but I had fun writing it and thinking about the process. And if any other writers write something like this about a fic they wrote, I would absolutely read it.
